Serving Knitting Lovers in Oshawa for Over 51 Years
Knitting pros and novices alike have been coming to The Wool Queen in Oshawa for over 51 years. Our very own wool queen Jannalaine Howells is the owner and operator of our store and has instilled a very strong commitment to friendly and informative customer service. Whether you are tracking down a specific type of wool, or you’re just looking to learn a fun and relaxing new hobby, you will find everything you need at our centre.
Help Those Less Fortunate
Interested in helping the less fortunate in our community? Knit and crocheted items are being accepted in-store for Casting Off the Cold. Hats, mitts, scarves, afghans—baby, child or adult; we will gladly accept and distribute anything you create in the Durham region!
Donate Your Leftover Yarn
We also collect leftover yarn and needles for a charity called Learning for Hope located in Peru. Learning for Hope teaches Peruvian children how to knit, giving them a practical skill that will last a lifetime. Also, if you like, they accept handmade infant hats for the babies living higher up in the mountains who often suffer from frostbite. There is a basket located just inside the door for your donation.
The Red Scarf Project
We were contacted by a member of the AIDS Action team. She works in partnership with many AIDS organizations and this year, the team is joining forces with the AIDS Committee of Durham Region to help reach their target of red scarves, which will be tied around lamp poles in downtown Oshawa. The purpose of this Red Scarf Project is to raise awareness on World AIDS Day on December 1st, 2015. The scarves will have a note on each one indicating the person looking at them can take them for warmth, for hope and for the homeless – whatever the need may be. The scarves are 6 inches by 60 inches and can be knit or crotched to any design you wish, as long as it is done with red yarn. Please feel free to drop off the scarves at the store by November 21, and we will ensure they are delivered. Thank you so much for helping our community!!
